The experience of two of our kids who have worked with Greg for years has been amazing. While many people enjoy debate as a fun, intellectual challenge, Greg has taught me to see it as more than that.

The motions and arguments that come up are those debated by politicians and the global public, with real-world implications beyond simply winning or losing a round. Greg’s passion for honest, genuine debate is infectious, and has changed the way I construct arguments, consume media, and see the world. Politics, economics, and philosophy are all things that felt so far away as a Y7 student and are so much more real to me now.

Greg cares about his students—about their learning, success, and personal development. In the six years I’ve known him I have always been beyond impressed by his dedication to his students. When I was on the national debate team, he devoted so much of his time to us, helping us not only to prep but also to cope with the stress of competition and juggling debate with school and other activities. He has been an invaluable mentor to me.

Not only that my children adore Greg for his vast knowledge in debate and energy in class, I am more than impressed that my daughter continues to claim she is picking up new skills and strategies, even she has been taking weekly classes with Greg for over 5 years! Greg is an exceptional coach as he would pay close attention to every student in class and reflect the truth honestly in his detailed feedback for parents. It takes heart, not just hard work, for a teacher to do so and my children respect Greg more for that. As a result, they are motivated to keep improving and devoted to debate.

Greg has been the best coach, mentor and friend to me. He is an amazing teacher and has the knack of explaining concepts in a very simple and accessible way.

I remember one time when I was finding it difficult to come up with creative arguments for a debate motion. Greg devised an exercise just for me called the Spider Drill which trained me in coming up with eight arguments for every motion. Other than being incredibly useful and tailored to my needs, this also demonstrates the extent to which Greg is devoted to his students. I was also very shy and insecure as a young debater and Greg brought me out of my shell by pointing out my strengths in front of my teammates and by speaking to me individually. He really is an amazing coach and I would recommend him without hesitation.
